Man who imported cocaine jailed

ALISON LANGLEY

A man who arranged to have a cocaine sent from the Caribbean to a Niagara residence has been sentenced to two years behind bars.

Sanjay Allen appeared in Ontario Court of Justice in St. Catharines on Friday for sentencing on a charge of importing cocaine into Canada.

“The offence itself is very serious,” Judge Donald Wolfe told the firsttime offender.

In February 2022, court heard, Canada Border Services Agency officers at Pearson International Airport in Toronto intercepted a package originating from St. Martin in the Caribbean.

The package, labelled as containing shirts and addressed to a woman in St. Catharines, was found to contain one kilogram of cocaine.

The RCMP launched an investigation and conducted a “controlled delivery” of the package to St. Catharines.

The woman told police the defendant had asked her to receive the package for him.
