Police took a St. Catharines man into custody Thursday evening after a bizarre incident on Scott Street.
Officers responded at about 7:35 p.m. to a report of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle and a subsequent stabbing.
Niagara Regional Police said a 45-yearold man and his six-year-old son were walking east in the crosswalk at the intersection of Scott Street West and Ontario Street when they were struck by a 2009 black Toyota pickup truck.
The driver of the truck, a 32-year-old male, left the vehicle and approached the father and son, police say. There was an altercation, and the driver was stabbed.
The driver then walked away from the father and approached witnesses, where he sought first-aid attention. The boy and his father suffered minor physical injuries.
The driver was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, said police.
Ryan Garrett, 45, of St. Catharines, was arrested and charged with aggravated assault.
Garrett was held in custody pending a bail hearing Friday.
